Procedures for Non-Instructional Routines – Third Grade
Expectations for Student Behavior The school handbook, as well as classroom expectations and procedures, are discussed and practiced during the beginning of school. These expectations and procedures are reviewed periodically throughout the year. Students will receive “Coop-Bucks” for behaving, for excelling on assessments, for following the dress code, for completing AR requirements, and for exceptional conduct. The Coop-Bucks will count towards earning a homework pass (good for one free assignment with no penalty) and special class/individual rewards. The four basic rules are as follows: Consequences for Violating Class and School Rules/Policies 1 check = Quiet lunch, letter home 2 check = Quiet lunch, Loss of recess, letter home 3 checks= Loss of recess and letter home, to be signed and returned 4 checks=All of the above, phone call/email home, and administration will be informed
Snacks: No snacks in the classroom. Please inform me in writing or email of any early dismissals. tcooper@saintphilips.net Homework Policy: Homework is posted every day at the “Mr. Cooper Site” on Scholastic.com, so absent students or parents can check to see what homework is required. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE TO WRITE DOWN THEIR HOMEWORK. Scholastic.com is more for a tool to communicate to parents and for students to use teacher-approved websites. Make-up Work Policy Assessment: Assessment Procedures Accelerated Reader Requirements 1st Trimester: 15 points, 3rd grade or higher grade level, at least 60 pages, score at least 85% 2nd Trimester: 17 points, 3rd grade or higher grade level, at least 60 pages, score at least 85% 3rd Trimester: 20 points, 3rd grade or higher grade level, at least 60 pages, score at least 85% Points will not roll-over from trimester to trimester.
The Language Arts grade in 3rd grade is based on the following breakdown: 40% Reading 40% Language Arts/Writing/Wordly Wise 10% Unit Reading Tests 10% Spelling The Mathematics 3rd grade is based on the following breakdown: 40% Tests 20% Unit Tests 20% Quizzes 20% Class work/Participation/Effort The Social Studies 3rd grade is based on the following breakdown: 40% Chapter Tests 40% Lesson Quizzes (end of lesson) 10% Unit Tests 10% Class work/Participation/Effort Testing Schedule Math tests will be on Fridays. Wordly Wise tests will be on Mondays. Social Studies and Open Court tests will occur after a story or section is finished. These days may vary; but the best effort will be made to ensure they do not coincide with the above scheduled or specials’ tests.
